Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Nicole Kidman in 'The Danish Girl'
The upcoming The Danish Girl is one of those independent, edgy films that has all the right elements for something brilliant, but it's subject matter is so tricky that it could end up becoming a farce. Based on David Ebershoff's novel, The Danish Girl is the story of the world's first post-operative transsexual, Einar Wegener, and his wife, Greta. Tomas Alfredson is set to direct, Nicole Kidman has long been attached to play Einar, and Variety reports that Gwyneth Paltrow has stepped in to play Greta. She's stepping in for Charlize Theron, who originally held the role, but has dropped out for unspecified reasons.

The story takes place in 1920s Denmark. Greta* was a portrait painter, and needed a model. She asked Einar to step into a dress, stockings, and heels, and created some kind of awakening in Einar. In women's clothes, her husband became an outrageous character named Lili.

Johnny Depp Falling Into Angelina's Tourist Trap ?
Johnny Depp is in talks to star with Angelina Jolie in The Tourist, a remake of a French thriller in which Depp would play an American abroad who gets swept up in an Interpol agent's web of intrigue as she tracks down a fugitive who used to be her lover, according to Variety.

Sam Worthington, the Australian star of James Cameron's upcoming 3-D spectacle, Avatar, had been slated to play the titular tourist, but recently dropped out, along with director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who helmed the Oscar-winning The Lives of Others.

This isn't The Tourist's first casting shakeup, either. Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron were originally set to give chase in the lead roles.

The Box Director Richard Kelly revealed his hopes for his latest project, in which it looks like he might be going all James Cameron on us. “ I'm working on my new script, I'm probably on the eighth draft of it right now, and I've just kinda been waiting for ' The Box ' to come out to see if I can get [ the project ] off the ground," Kelly told BD in an exclusive interview. “ It's a thriller set in Manhattan in the year 2014. We hope to shoot the movie in 3-D, and part of the movie would be filmed using full CGI motion capture.”

Mel Gibson may be a father for the eighth time: His girlfriend, musican Oksana Grigorieva, gave birth to a baby girl, according to reports circulating on the Web. PEOPLE is currently attempting to confirm the news.

The baby, who was due in December, arrived Friday, says RadarOnline.com.

Gibson, 53, has seven children (six sons and a daughter) with his estranged wife Robyn, while Oksana has a son, Alexander, with her former boyfriend, actor Timothy Dalton.

" I have a 12 year old, so I've been a mother for 12 years – and of course, there is no first time mother's trepidation as such," Grigorieva, 39, said on a British TV show in September. " So naturally it's more relaxed, and I'm very dynamic so the pregnancy falls into my work schedule."

In terms of her relationship with the actor-filmmaker, she said, " Actually we have no plans to marry whatsoever. I haven't thought about it – we haven't spoken about it."

Katie Holmes is now Anna Paquin's on-screen maid of honor
Unemployment is tough all around these days. So much so that it's even being felt in typically sunny Hollywood. Very few studio films are shooting at the moment that one particular indie film has been able to line up a surprisingly stellar cast of notable actors at bargain basement prices. " True Blood's " Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong were already on board the new comedy, but now Variety reports Katie Holmes has become a last minute replacement as the lead of " The Romantics ".

Holmes will step in for Liv Tyler who has left the production for undisclosed reasons ( your guess is as good as ours ). The indie centers on eight college friends who reunite for a wedding with Holmes as the maid of honor to Paquin's bride. A romantic triangle figures in the storyline as both ladies have slept with the groom (Duhamel) in a project that appears to have the trappings of a modern day farce.

No doubt having something to do with a little bit of creative financing, Holmes will receive an executive producer credit on the flick (which usually means more backend money if it's a hit).

In a rarity, the flick will be directed by Galt Niederhoffer who adapted her own screenplay for the novel.

Mrs. Tom Cruise has been quite busy lately getting her career back in order after the disastrous " Mad Money " bombed in 2008. She spent last fall on Broadway in a revival of Arthur Miller's " All My Sons " and shot the Miramax thriller " Don't Be Afraid of the Dark " opposite Guy Pierce in Australia.

" The Romantics " will begin shooting this week in New York City.
